The Speare Bearer: Midsummer Night’s Dream, Notre Dame Young Company, Notre Dame University, South Bend, Indiana, 08/20

I’m going to go ahead and say I didn’t know what to expect in this show at Notre Dame… but this might have been the single best show I’ve seen all year. At LEAST the best college show. REMARKABLE direction, cast… there was almost no self-conciousness, no vanity, not in the least “actor-y”, no one was trying to be “natural”, they just had fun with the language, and ran with it. The scenes were so fun, and unpredictable, and dangerous, while being so well draw, and sophisticated. The actors were playing with each other, fearless, were not in the least afraid of the audience, and really engaged them… I wish i could meet director Kevin Asselin and shake his hand as I did the rest of his cast. they were brilliant.

Notre Dame. Who knew?
